Default Palmetto Railways gains switching contract

Per an STB filing, South Carolina Public Railways (dba Palmetto Railways) will take over all switching duties at Cosgrove Yard and the Kapstone paper mill in North Charleston, SC in mid February.

This deal has been in the works for a few years now, but seems to be solidly driven by the end of the North Charleston Terminal Company lease next month.

CSX and NS will now bring their trains to Cosgrove and simply exchange cuts with what Palmetto Railways has built for outbounds, rather than spend a full shift (or two) switching cars.

The only jobs Palmetto will wholly gain from CSX and NS is the "Mill Job" which performs switching duties around the Kapstone mill, such as spotting woodchip loads for emptying and pulling turpentine tanks.
