Default How can I create an avatar from a .jpg?

I've tried simply resizing the .jpg and it gets ugly fast. How can I create a custom avatar from a .jpg?

Thanks,
Earl

First off, which program are using to resize? And second, what size are you making it? Anything around 100x90 or so is good.

Been trying with MS Photo Editor. The pictures are .jpg format.

Thanks...

Try making them in gif format. Gif's are usually better for avatars and such.

Well, I tried it. Not as pretty as some I've seen, but it looks like it worked. Opinions?

Thanks,
Earl
