Default IAIS Rock Island

What happened to the IAIS Rock Island locomotive photo? Poor quality or stolen?

No fans have shot it yet as far as I know. Its in side from what I hear. The photo that was getting passed around was a builders photo.

Al works for IAIS in the office. I didn't see the other shot. IAIS main line is all of 1 hour south of me so I am going to try for some shots.

And he stated in his remarks that the photos were received by IAIS from the MAC. Therefore, only the photographer at the MAC can upload them here. If anyone else tries, they're going to get yanked.

Glad I am a member of TO's...

That is one SHARP unit, and based on the initial reaction on TO's, I'd
say there is in fact a way way to satisfy everyone - even railfans.

Should I boycott MotorTrend if I see a spy photo of the next Camaro?
If admin was asked to remove the photo, I would respect their decision,
otherwise, I've never been a fan of censorship and secrecy.

So for those of us who arent paying members of Trainorders (suckers who pay...) what happened that they made them pull the pictures?

Negative opinion like that is uncalled for here and best kept to yourself.

TO didn't make some pull a thing off here, The photo on TO is a copy the painters sent IAIS and some from the railroad posted it on TO. ON RP it has to be your photo and it wasn't? I am assuming some of that.

One of the great all-time color schemes, except that it suffers when dirty, which is most or all of the time in railroading.

Troy, the shot looks good to me. Perhaps if all one sees is long GEVOs and such these days, one forgets that sometimes lots of engines were short like a GP38-2. Or maybe my eye is off. It does look a little squat but that may be the power of suggestion. I've always like the GP38s.

The nickname of that paint scheme was "bankrupt blue" btw...

You can still find covered hoppers every once in a while painted in that scheme

It's not that it was a photo posted before the unit was released. It was a photo that was posted by someone other than the photographer. It's more along the lines of if I took one of your zoom pan shots and uploaded it under my account. The person who uploaded the shot was claiming it as his own.

/Maybe I'd finally win a SC stealing Mitch's photos like that.

Blue is nice, but i think the Rocket scheme works better on GEVO's. And as Troy pointed out, it symbolizes a time when the Rock was proud and profitable. Blue is remembered along the likes of weedgrown rails, standing derailments and long lines of parked power.

I clicked on that link and all I saw was a preview vid for the 2009 Trainfest. So I watched it anyway...and I must ask, how the heck did they get that elevated pacing segment at :50 in the video??

Well, I certainly figured a helicopter for the higher shots...but that just seemed to low (and unsafe) for a helicopter to be flying. I guess I'm used to wires being EVERYWHERE in this state and I can't imagine and helicopter pilot flying that low for that long without risking hitting some.

Yea that shows up if you're not a member, He did about 5 videos of steam feast all from the air. It is ok but then I am not in to videos. After that you will see a postage stamp photo till they start page 2 then you wont get a thing, pain in the ass.

Looks absolutely fine to me.

I have to agree with others that I really did like that scheme too, along with the Chessie yellow cat, Katy John Deere green, SOO white and red, Jersey Central red baron and other over the top schemes that came out of the 1960s and 1970s. I think it really has to do with a lot of us having grown up with those schemes more than anything else though.
