Default Changes to Upload Page

Hello all,

I would like to announce a couple of changes to the upload page.

1. The alternate (Mac, Netscape) upload page has been removed, as the script which sends data from the popup menu for location (which didn't work before) has been changed to work in all browsers.

2. The input of free-typed state/country entries has been disabled. You will need to pick a country from the popup menu before proceeding. This has been done to alleviate the problem of TONS of improperly formatted data in the country field, such as "AZ" or "AZ, USA" instead of the correct "Arizona, USA." I am about 1/3 of the way through correcting nonstandard country info throughout the database... this operation will continue for the next several days until all country data is standardized.

This really isn't related to this post, but why aren't we able to view this when we click on the "Railroad Photography Forum". It shows up under the newest post, but when you click on the forum to the left, it isn't there. I've noticed this last week on a post also. Perhaps it is just my browser... anyone else have this problem?

Sounds all good but I gotta say this...

You would't say lets go to Marathon, Canada, Ontario... Canada being the province. The US has it correct.. Bay Minette, Alabama, USA

How come that is?

I know where Alabama is..... I don't need to be told that it's in the USA. Just me maybe.

Concur. I don't like scrolling all the way to the bottom to get:

USA- North Dakota

I would suggest that since ~90% of the uploads are from the CONUS, the 50 states should be first and foremost.

And, no, Joe, it isn't just you...

Chris, I agree with Ween. The 50 states should be listed
first.

I'll have to agree with Chris Wilson on this. If the US is listed as city, state, country then our friends to the north should be listed as city, province, country.

You wouldn't say Louisville, USA, Kentucky.

I see no problem with the new drop down menu as long as the screeners pay attention to the information submitted with photos and reject those that are incorrect. (Garbage in, garbage out theory)

On side note for CK. If CS hasn't already told you Arkansas has disappeared!!

All but one of the Arkansas photos have had the state name changed to Kansas. (Maybe if the Razorbacks click their heels three times they could find their way home?? )

Yea, M.J. got it right... I was pretty tired when I wrote that last night :P When I was uploading some shots from my little vacation I noticed I couldn't click on the province/state country. I thought my computer got a virus!!!

Anywase, hopefully it all works out, there are close to 100,000 images to change! I can wait!

Hi guys,

Thanks for your input!

The popup window should now be working with Mozilla -- this has been tested by several users and all report no problems with it!

Additionally, U.S. entries have been moved to the top of the list, and Canadian entries will now display the proper format (example: City Name, Ontario, Canada) when selected.

I'm in the process of changing all photos in the database to reflect the proper Canadian format.

Will things work properly in Mozilla FireFox? I've tried uploading using that browser several times, as well as posting comments, but I have never been able to make things work.

Thanks,

God! You're so lazy!! :P

But it's a great thing that Railpictures.net is finally recieving some standarization.. it was hell before to find some photos from the same state/country.

So I presume that the railroads are next to go??

Laziness: No easier way to pursue happiness in one's life of liberty.
