Default Rejected for Poor Esthetic Quality

I recently submitted some shots of the LRV bridge in Tempe, AZ, and had them rejected for "Poor Esthetic Quality." I'm not necessarily complaining, I guess I'm just asking for a little better explanation...where did I go wrong here?

For the bridge shots, I think it would have been more effective had you done a longer exposure to have the streaks across the entire bridge. The short streaks just don't have the same impact, especially with the strong colors of the bridge lighting. The streaks need to be a little more dominant, IMO.

Agreed. Love that color though from the bridge.

Thanks for the replies, I'll give the longer exposures a try tomorrow night.

Outstanding colors and reflection....but now I think you just need to work on the composition. Try it again with the composition you have in the first rejection, but get the light streak all the way across the bridge. You'll have to stop down to avoid the foreground lights being blown out on the longer exposure, though.

Try f16 at 15 seconds, which will give you roughly the same exposure as the settings you had on that shot. Or you could go f11 at 15 seconds and ISO 200 to reduce noise. If 2 seconds got you that much of a streak, 8 should suffice for the entire bridge (unless you get a slower moving train).

Yeah, on that last one I had to crop it down because a plane strayed into the upper right corner...I'll give it another shot. Thanks for all the help!
