That is UGLY. How about this one...

Michael, I saw some of those on the Metra in Chitown. They were soooo ugly. Worse than the F40PHM-2 (that's the name of the engine brought up by Hoffman).

My brother thinks that the P42DC's look terrible. He can't understand why I go chase the AMTK (5:30 AM and 10:30 PM) rather than the freights (at least, he kinda understands going railfanning, he even said he might come trackside with me sometime).

Those units aren't terrible, but they looked better on flat cars on NS

NOW FOR THE UGLY

Aw, you're not very nice. Those are my favorites. Funny thing is: I think they have a similar look and style to the 2008 Chevy Tahoes. (same corporation, different division) http://www.nationautomotive.com/imag...oe_1_table.jpg

Let me point out that my wife, who has as much interest in trains as she has in gravel, has looked at an E7A and an FPA4 and said to me lines something like, "Go take a picture of your rusty hunk of metal... I'll be here in the car waiting."

Personally, I think all locomotives are fascinating looking. Have yet to see an ugly one in any of the choices shown.

I agree that anything overseas is ugly and also a BQ23-7 is just awful.

Haven't looked through this thread to see if this has been posted, but this has got to be near the top of the list:

I was watching a video earlier and it showed up on there, and made me think of this thread. I hadn't read through it yet, but I had a feeling it was posted already.

MK50s have the weird, but the ugliest are the FP40s.

Familiarity would seem to have a way of allowing us to, in some unconscious way, overlook just how ugly most diesels (and electrics) are with exceptions of course. MILW's little Joes, GM and ALCO cab units are very attractive, and are the exceptions, rather than the rule (IMO).

Though we may disagree on much that has been said in this thread, we might all agree that the BL2 is the ugliest GM production diesel!
So they're weird! You racist!

What's an FP40? Do you mean an F40PH?

Hahaha. This was awesome. I'm so glad you dug up a month-old thread to add this. It made my day.

Ah but Jim, back in the 50's we thought the Aerotrain was really modern, space-age, Buck Rogers kind of stuff.

I guess the iPhone will be thought of as pretty ridiculous in the year 2060.

Or we could just ask Jean-Luc!

Vary GM, The front windshield looks like it would fit an Impala maybe, It was an SW 1200 under the hood. Fan and radiator was under and just in front of the cab. It had one truck powered, the front one and was slippery. The cars made by GM out of bus bodes. It was junk so the Rock Island got it cheep and worked Chicago commuter trains. Not a 100% on the radiator part going by what some told me on that one.

Here is my vote http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=257874

P42's and F40PHM-2's are pretty compared to a U30CG.

A'ight... seeing the Aerotrain being trashed was one thing (it was a bit homely in a beautiful way).

But having a U30CG being trashed... d'ems fightin' words.

Those were so ugly that at least one should have been stuffed and mounted in a museum somewhere just to remind us exactly how ugly they were.

And to think they came from my favorite GE, the four axle Dash 7.

I hate that I never saw one in person though.
