Linking Photos in Descriptions
Hello all!
Another amateur question:
If I wanted to link to another one of my photos in a different photo's description, how would I go about doing that? For instance, I would say something like, "To see this view from a different angle, click here." The click here part would be the link. I tried the "photo id=??????" but that did not work.
Thank you for you responses.
God bless,
Jake

HTML code is what you need.
[a href="http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=XXXXXX"]CLICK HERE[/a]
Replace [ and ] by < and >.
Officially, it's against the rules, but everyone does it.

I think it is OK to do as long as your link stays within RP, isn't it? Linking to outside sources like Flickr, etc. is the no-no. But you are right, everyone does that too.

One of the great things about RP is that patrons can and do link in my opinion - I've always said RP is more then just photos and the links often allow a better interpretation of the subject and provides a lot of added value to the viewer. I personally like and endorse linking to sites that supplement the history of a subject, timelines, sponsoring groups and charities.
Anyway - if you're going to link, add target="_blank" which will open your link in a separate page vs replacing the current page and making viewers work their way back.
This will open a page to the "Grand Canyon Steam Page".
Replace the ** with < at the start and the ~~ with > at the end.
**A HREF="http://www.thetrain.com/grand-canyon-railway-steam-7275.html" target="_blank"~~**u~~Grand Canyon Steam Page**/u~~**/A~~

Correction:
Replace the ** with < everywhere and the ~~ with > everywhere.
The confusion arises because in Mitch's HTML string he also includes code to place an underline beneath "Grand Canyon Steam Page", and that part of the code also uses < and >. Also, the initial HTML "A" command has to be closed right after _blank".

Why not type it out as it should look, screen cap it, and then post the pic in your reply?

I can never remember the code, so if I want to add a link in a new photo that I'm uploading, I have to go to one of my old pics, go into edit mode and then copy and paste the code. From there I just change the wording of the link to make it relevant to my current pic.

A photo from the database?
[Photoid=XXXXXX] where XXXXXX is the image number.

You should add "Philadelphia" to that list. A one-word caption, and you still get it wrong? Did Pete type it for you?

Wow. I thought that guy always put decent stuff on here.
Perhaps it's a sales tool to upgrade to RPElite?

Perhaps, but that has to be a failed marketing strategy

What's the weather / leaf situation like up there? I am in Atlanta all this week and it's rainy and supposed to get cool tomorrow here.

Quite poor to this point at elevations you'll find trains at (minus Cass). you'll need to 'enhance' the colors in photoshop

I am sure that will change within a few days to a week or so. Especially if you all got the cold front that came through Atlanta yesterday. It was a 30+ degree swing overnight.

Assassinations or photos?
If photos - what, where and for whom? We "just shoot for fun" photographers are always intrigued by such opportunities!
