Cropping Help

Folks,

I am unsure how to crop this one. It doesn't abide by the rule of thirds, but I didn't want to cut out the bridge pillars and the river. Where should I go with this?

I would have went either up or down from there and reshot it.

The bridge is still cut off, and the poles kill it.

It is savable, just get rid of most of the right side.

All the dead space on the left side actually kills it for me, but it could use some cropping on the top and bottom too. The pole sticking up out of the back does not help. Since I guess the thing is moving away from us, do you have an earlier frame which would make the pole less obtrusive.

I'd say go with the 2nd one. By the way, I think I see a red tint to the whole picture.

Either photo could benefit from cropping from the left and top. Second photo doesn't have the power pole growing out of the caboose. And believe it or not, if it doesn't comply with the Rule of Thirds, nobody's going to take you away in the dead of night.

Haha well Bob I'm still cherry in that respect. I'm used to a society of rules and I don't know any better!

Perhaps you all could help me understand why they PEQ'ed it. Surely it can't be because the gentleman's face is visible?

It's a nice photo. I have no idea why they rejected it. I certainly hope it's not because you caught the attention of the guy in the hardhat. I forgot to say - love the flags.

I tried another view, but I don't think they're fans of the ass end of a ditch cleaner. There's a few in the database of rail grinder rear ends, but maybe I'm the only one that finds this as neat. Maybe it IS the flags they dislike

You could crop much tighter. If you had a frame from an angle that shows better what's going on, even better.

Hha. 4600+ views later, I say it made it. When I first saw it, I wondered what the heck you were doing trying to get the bridge shots on. The accepted one is a really good shot.

Of course, like HG, I don't see the difference between it and this one

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that yours and HG's shove pics are actual trains, not MOW? Not a problem for me, just guessing.

Thank you Joe. I think I was too hung up on the lighting with this one to see anything else.

In the case of the two rejected photos, I would say it is based upon the taste of an individual, not the viewers. As always I appreciate the feedback and encouragement.
