Cropping Advice

I'm not the best at cropping and centering. I thought to keep the locomotive in the center of the frame, but the young lady threw off the balance of the photo (no pun intended). Any suggestions?

If you thought to keep the locomotive in the center, you were thinking of not getting your shot on RP! RP doesn't care for centered, rule of thirds, blah blah blah.

too much empty space on the left, get rid of it.

I'd crop her out. I crop on the left too. To make the lady an element in this scene, you'd need a different angle.

Don't know what original looks like but as is you don't have much(any) to take off top or bottom if you crop left and right. I'd try crop off left, up to the S and leave the right. Otherwise seems you have to go with a vertical? With the woman you have a little interesting photo, without you have CSX and a signal.

I would try this 5X7 crop before removing elements of the original.

I will definitely try again with these suggestions. I had a couple shots further onto the wye, but I had gotten skunked by pole shadows. I do appreciate all of the advice.
