Not RP Related; Pushing Photography's Envelope.
I saw this on Flickr today, I want to know what peoples thoughts are on it. Even after reading I'm not 100% on how he actually did this, but it looks pretty damn neat. Click the photo to go to the website explaining how he did it.

I personally have had a problem with those trying to tell us to turn railroad photography into an "art form." It's fine for them to do so, I welcome it in fact, but what I do have a problem with is that the practitioners of the more "arty" shots, I have found, tend to look down their nose's at others who are shooting more "mundane" shots.
Railroad photography is what you make of it, but one way is not "better" than another, IMHO. Unless you have a pole right thought the nose of the engine! -SG

Looking at his other stuff, he is one of the best photographers i have ever seen!

It's not a photo, it's a series of likely hundreds of photos stacked in photoshop taken with a fisheye lens. I'm not trying to be critical, just pointing out the facts.
That said, I think it's awesome.
Google "star trails stacking" for many websites on the technique...

And the sun on the other side so yea this was a 24 photo to. By the number of suns in the shot there is 80? shots in this one photo?

I have a friend who is into sky photos. you basically take hundreds of short images, and use a program to merge them into a single image, and corrects the movement of the stars.
The end result does look very good.

That image is pretty cool. I dont have the patience to sit around all day taking countless shots not to mention the time spent on the computer to merge everything.

I don't think it was taken with a fish-eye. It's a panorama of photos that were taken wit about half-hour intervals depicting the apparent track of the Sun on the sky and a long-exposure night shot stitched together in a ring, not in a rectangle. Go ahead and submit it! I wonder what the rejection reason will be ...
I just wish it had a more interesting center, maybe a switchstand. I'd have to see it, might be a totally bad idea.

Most likely it will be rejected for digital manipulation, maybe even a PEQ.
I started doing more fun stuff and posting it on flickr lately. I'm starting to feel like this site is a little too restraining. Hmmm, somewhat.

Sometimes I think of RP as like 12-bar blues. The form is narrowly defined, but one can still innovate within it and do interesting work.
Very nice dusk shot of East Lake Shore Drive.

I'm not exactly sure how one would go about making a shot like this, but if you're looking for something to put in the center, why not something railroad-oriented, such as track, a signal, or a crossbuck?
