Back lit

Any other way to process this to make it acceptable? Due to the track direction the sun will never be over your back. Original color shot was rejected too. I know the switching to B/W is one way to get a bad angle shot in. Looking for suggestions.

Obviously, it's backlit, but the processing seems fine to me. I actually think it's more the nose than the side. It looks like distracting shadows on the nose. For RP, this might be a cloudy day shot or filtered sun day. I like the framing. Is there any way to go wider and show some houses?

It's close to home so I can get a redo. I can take my camera instead of using my iPhone like I did for this shot. I agree, more houses will improve the scene.

I think it is probably a very nice pleasant color shot even if not accepted, not too enthused about the B/W as done. Realizing the line is not too busy but as noted a different type of day or a different time of the day would probably be better.

With a redo you can include the "S" in Seventh.

I like it, though it's contrasty. Maybe the right screener will too?

How about early mornings in summer here? Should be light on the nose at least.

I did go a little extreme with my color shot. The sun will only line up with the tracks near the Summer Solstice, otherwise the sun always comes from the other side of the tracks

Agreed. It looks like it was leveled based on the house on the right, without any regard to the lean on the left due to wide angle distortion.

Level in the center, and then fix the sides.

I saw a green signal when leaving work this foggy morning, so after a stop at the grocery store, I headed down to the spot. I was hoping for more fog to add to the scene but no luck. I did re-position to include more of the street scene. As before, this was shot with my iPhone. So this shot is for you. Don't you feel special...

I think something like this has potential, but the nose/train is too dark for it to work as is. I really like the composition of this version much better.

Tried another shot. Went wider. Still no luck. This is more a Gary Knapp location whet you can control the light via flash. Guess I'll wait for a rain shot

I think the composition in your second shot is much better than this one. I have to agree that it is much too tight on the locomotives.

I have some earlier frames. I wanted to get 8102 better exposed. Regardless I don't think any clear day shot will be accepted unless I can get a heritage unit on the point.

2) Be a High Value Contributor
3) Catch screener in a good mood

Contrary to popular belief, a properly captured and processed cloudy day scene can be quite striking. I'm at work currently, but when I get home I can dig into some of my files for as shot / after editing examples.

I hear/get miningcamper's suggestions, which leaves me relying on something other than myself to get a cloudy day pass on RP. Granted I'm still at the screener's mercy, Lyold, I'm still interested in your thoughts/approach as these conditions are usually the norm for my quick local outings around the area, well, anywhere really. I have tons of pics that I just dont mess with anymore knowing my chances of getting them on RP are slim.

Don't blow out the sky, and focus on creating interesting compositions (i.e. no down the straight stretch wedgies, etc.).
