Default Cropping Help?

Looks like I got nailed for cropping issues here:

http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...d=589977&key=0

Does it need to be less "in your face", or just more closely trimmed to the locomotive? I can post the original if that would help any..

Thanks,

It's pretty centered all around. Try trimming from the left, or doing that AND going vertical if you have enough on the bottom to work with. The lighting is kinda iffy though.

Woah! That looks really good! I like the way the locomotive contrasts from the background, as opposed to the rather bland overcast sky look on the original.

Alec's crop is way, way too aggressive.

While a great subject for a photo, the train here isn't moving, it's poorly lit, and the image quality just isn't there. You've got to keep that image for the personal collection.

Get back out there when you've got some proper sun, and when you can catch the locomotive actually doing something. Get some human interest in there, get a more interesting angle, and keep at it until you get something that really works. With that subject and the right conditions, it'll be tough to take a bad shot.
