Trains Magazine 2011 Photo Contest Winners
I'm surprised that no one has posted this yet. Trains Magazine has posted an on-line article announcing the winners of the "Shadows and Light" contest.
Not surprisingly, I recognized most of the names among the winners list. Congrats to Travis Dewitz for the Grand Prize and to the other folks who placed or were runner's up. Nice job, folks!!

Which is odd to me, because it would seem giving a way a camera received in trade for advertising would be much more practical than giving away that amount of cash.

Did you get one, Dave? Nice! I don't recall past winners, alas. Fame is fleeting.
All those years I wanted to get one, to upgrade my Rebel and later my 20D. But my skills fell just a wee bit short ...

Actually, my first thought when I heard Travis won was "What, first David, now Travis...what about ME?"

I appreciate the Kalmbach judging in that the Grand prizewinner, is a shot WAY out of the box.
Last years winner was Mike Johannson's (SP?) pan/streak shot, right? (Talk about fleeting fame) That too was out of the box.

A bit late back to the party after a couple long nights doing other stuff and RP dying in the wee hours yesterday before I could respond to this thread...

Thanks, and yes, I did: a 50D. Sold it to a friend's brother because the cash was more useful than a third DSLR body.

Maybe you should study our portfolios to learn what good photographs look like... or stop sending loonies in with your submissions, those aren't legal tender on this side of the border.
Also: Three winners in a row that first appeared on RP. Perhaps there's hope for you yet!

Canon stopped sponsoring the contest after '09, so away went the cameras for the top finishers and Winterail trip for the grand prize.

I sent Travis an e-mail as soon as I received my advance copy of the July issue. It's a ball-buster shot, for darn sure.
Yes---you have to buy a copy of the magazine to play. It also requires some basic reading and comprehension skills....

I have had a subscription since '65.
Every other issue has an article by some guy named Ron.
Anyway, now I also get the digital edition so I saw the contest winners about 3 days before the print edition arrived.
Again congrats to the winners!

Well, there you have it, Trains is in cahoots with RP. I'm sure the haters are going to go fetal when they realize that.
