Default Bad Cropping/Angle Rejection

Hi everyone. This photo of mine was rejected for bad cropping and bad angle. As far as the angle, what is wrong with a 3/4 Roaster shot? Also, is there anything I can do about the cropping to make it better? Thanks. http://www.railpictures.net/viewreject.php?id=240664

As I've learned from a few rejections, roster shots need to be 100% accurate in every aspect. All the way from composure to cleanliness of the train to perfect weather. One thing that stands out is the trucks and bottom 1/4 - 1/3 of the train are shadowed. IMO, crop is tight.

Did you lighten up the photo? There seems to be some noise in the dark blue/black paint. Also it seems a bit soft. Chris already covered the tightness of the crop.

The shadow of the platform shelter (?) cast across the trucks might be a larger problem than the crop...tho I agree with Chris, give the loco a li'l breathing room. Also something about the image quality is bothering me...can't quite put my finger on it.

sammy i think that it rejected for bad cropping as there is no breathing room in front of the locomotive.and rejected for bad angel as you didnot got the whole train in the pic.i agree with chris as the roster shots should be 100% in everything.

Yes, I lightened the photo to try and bring out the trucks since they are painted such a dark color. I'll try giving the train more breathing room. Thanks everyone.

I think you answered you own question on that.

Default Final Verdict

I resubmitted it with more breathing room around the photo but it still got rejected for bad cropping, and bad angle, so I think I'll keep it in my Personal Collection. http://www.railpictures.net/viewreject.php?id=240935

"Personal collection" Good plan. I am sure you will be there again to recreate the shot. Although the smaller version seems to have better quality.

Another quick question: This pic was rejected for poor image quality, but I'm just not seeing it...is it just me? http://www.railpictures.net/viewreject.php?id=240956 Anything I can do to salvage it? Thanks.

There's what looks to be a very slight motion blur on the nose/plow/knuckle. Also, and this is probably what the screeeners meant, the sky seems a touch grainy. A file compression issue perhaps?

It's the shadows. There is nothingyou can do to fix the shadows in this shot, as far as I can tell.

the 2 lights under the word COASTER looks alittle blurry.also the coupler in front of the locomotive looks blurry too. or i can say that the whole nose of the locomotive looks blurry.but the angel is nice and also the colors are great.

Yea you pretty much hit the nail right on the head. I appealed the shot, and the admin said pretty much what you just said-blurry. You guys think that if I was to sharpen up the nose only (where it is most blurry) it would reduce the blur?

Hmmm. I'd tend to say shelve it and use a faster shutter speed next time.

Your shot seems alright to me cropping wise. I havent sent a roster shot in for a while so I am not sure what their criteria is now??? The last roster I had was a pair of CN big units... CN 5631 I think with some soon to be scrapped hoppers in my background.

You shot does seem a little grainy too, but that can be easily fixed.
