There are some perks to railfanning with a police officer trainee:
- You can turn on the siren and lights when chasing after a train
- He knows all the local police officers, so they won't tell us to leave

The only caution that I would offer is that posting material such as this on the world-wide web is a good way to ensure that your friend never gets past trainee status, especially if that's a "company" vehicle. For the sake of your friend, I would pull that one down. Just a suggestion.
