Talking Can You Believe It?

And now, yet another example of what RP does not want you to submit.

Reason(s) for Rejection: - Poor Esthetic Quality: This rejection reason means that the photo is of low esthetic qualities, or is simply not the type of material we are wishing to publish.

Jim,

I'm sorry to disagree, but a pigeon is not a mammal, and thus does not have mammary glands. Hence... this would be poor chest lighting.

Moreover, when you sit down to dinner tonight and order a chicken breast, realize you are in fact ordering a chicken chest.

I don't know if your serious or not? But the lighting is really harsh and flat not to mention you can barely see the signal lens.

Maybe if the pigeon were an action figure instead...

Here is a similar of mine that got the PEQ ax a few years ago. Not arguing the rejection, just sharing.

I agree the light is harsh and you cant see the light very well.

Scheduling pigeon sittings for early morning or late evening at Fullerton is really tough because the birds never show up when they said they would be there.

Also, the light is issue is sort of a conundrum since to see the light better you need to move back from the signal which then makes the pigeon smaller.

Perhaps the action figure would help.

Ha ha. Very funny. I had the same trouble a few years ago when schelduling models.

Sheena 1 by Joe the Photog, on Flickr

Sheena being the exception. Still don't know why I didn't set something up with the South Carolina Railroad Museum with her. Can you imagine what a shot here would do of her coming out of a passenger car?

No. The issue there is you're using the wrong lens. Get one of those nice 5000mm telesmash lenses and you'll have no problem framing the photo exactly the same, but from a distance where you get a better angle on the light.

You oughtta just go ahead and submit that one, Joe. I doubt the screeners would even notice the lack of a train in the picture!

Maybe Sheena was responsible because she needed the money since she earning her way through college.

Ya, I see your point.

I got a really nifty 400mm that I could use, only that would involve me walking some distance away from the signal mast and we all know that the first rule of photo railfaning is that you musn't exert any extra energy whatsoever.

No shot is worth it unless you can open the car door, place one foot on terra firma and squeeze off that million dollar calendar shot.

Also, if you never leave your car, you don't have that problem that "some people" have, where you get the car in your shot.

Upon further review of your comment, I'm going to have to enter into the discussion exhibit A:

I think this bird probably disagrees with your assessment. If this bird has a breast, then I believe the pigeon will claim to have a breast, too.

Exclamation Lets cut to the chase gentlemen...

Forget the breast and nipple argument, a pigeon is not a mammal because it has a Cloaca.

"In zoological anatomy, a cloaca is the posterior opening that serves as the only such opening for the intestinal, reproductive, and urinary tracts of certain animal species. The word comes from Latin, and means sewer. All birds, reptiles, and amphibians possess this orifice, from which they excrete both urine and feces, unlike placental mammals, which possess two (or three) separate orifices for evacuation."

I think if it was something other than a rock dove, it may have some chance.

Like maybe an endangered condor, or bald eagle. Or an action figure, may I suggest this:
