NS Red, White, & Blue scheme
NS EMD SD60E 6920 is painted in a special Red, White, & Blue scheme to honor Veterans. Look for it to debut on Veteran's Day, Monday November 12th.

I like the half and half scheme, but I'm a little confused by the white and red squigglies. What are those supposed to represent, ribbons or something?

That paint scheme looks nothing like what I imagined it would be. I was thinking of something closer to the paint schemes that came out for 1976.

Its really gaudy, personally I think it would have looked alot better without the red pilot, the red roof and the cartoon star on the front.

To me, it does. The first thing I noticed was the red cab and pilot. But apparently this was designed by Veterans who work for NS. They are the whole reason the railroad is doing this anyway, so I'm willing to apreciate their vision as well as keeping track of it in hopes it accidentally makes it to South Carolina.

I think you missed the point, really. It was designed by verterans who work for NS. It was a labor of love for them. For us railfans to sit in judgement of them seems silly and really nitpicky to me.

I don't see the issue. To go all righteous on you, Joe, didn't the veterans fight for Wyatt's freedom of speech, however he wishes to use it? Why isn't it sufficient for him to acknowledge their effort with an A+, as he did? Isn't that getting the point?
I myself would prefer the red-less version shown here, but I like it. I imagine that if I were to see it trackside, I would no doubt be thrilled.

I don't disagree with any of that, really. But I also don't think it really changes my statement to Wyatt. I'm not up in arms about what he said, just making a point.

I applaud the effort NS has put forth. While I may not be a total fan of the paint job, it's still nice to see.
Sure beats the artwork of a painted locomotive on a float CSX made for some parade in Jacksonville on Veterans day..

Yes. The design was most likely a 100% Juniata creation. Clearly, this didn't get passed through the graphic artist in Norfolk...
This sort of thing happens. Harrisburg painted a Bicentennial GG1 using designs from a coffee cup from the shop vending machine.

No, I didn't miss the point at all. I know who designed it, I know what it was for, and I'm all for the idea. Like I said, if you read my post, you saw me say: "The idea gets an A+."
The result is meh. Could have been better.

I personally have had a problem with those trying to tell us to turn railroad photography into an "art form." It's fine for them to do so, I welcome it in fact, but what I do have a problem with is that the practitioners of the more "arty" shots, I have found, tend to look down their nose's at others who are shooting more "mundane" shots.
Railroad photography is what you make of it, but one way is not "better" than another, IMHO. Unless you have a pole right thought the nose of the engine! -SG

For the reason you state, the value it has for NS goes far beyond the aesthetic quality of the paint scheme. For that reason, I like it more than I like it.
