Question Screeners Choice: A Question

A terrific shot! There is no arguing that and you won't see me arguing that either.

Before anyone tries to make this out as someone posting in jealously or out of hatred, I am not. (Not to say that anyone would ; but better safe than sorry.)

I have absolutely nothing at all against Chase nor am I jealous. I also don't want to sound slanderous, or derogatory towards Chase, his work, or this website by any means. My post does not intend to do any of that.

I just find myself asking why that photo (shown above) out of all his recent work he's posted, gets the SC and not shots like these by Chase:

Chase has much more deserving work that should have landed him the SC award instead of the shot he did get the SC on.

To anyone who reads this - this absolutely is not! a post bashing Chase, his work, or this site in general.

I cant answer your question, but after viewing that photo, I am super pissed off that they replaced the mercury vapor street lights with those garbage sodium vapor lights. This is an absolute outrage!

You'll also love the cameras up everywhere, too.

Because shots like those can be done anywhere, anytime. The shot you are questioning being a SC took more effort and a little luck with the timing and positioning of the lightning (yeah, I know it's actually easier than it looks to shoot lighting, but that's beside the point in this case).

He captured a sweet scene, and one that you can't just go do any night of the week.

More luck than effort, but that plays a huge factor obviously. Goes without saying.

Absolutely. And without the lightning we would not be having this conversation, in fact it may not have even gotten in.

I agree with your tastes, but not your complaint. SC is not systematic, it depends on the screener's mood at the time of screening an individual shot. No comparison to a body of work is made.

And SC is the opinion of one person, the person screening that shot. There are any number of shots I would have not awarded an SC, and any number I would have instead. Different people, different views, subjective.

Thias thinks the shot is worthy of an SC, you do not, I don't either. I don't place much value in a lightning shot, that's my taste. I find the other two better, although personally I would not make the signal bridge shot an SC. But so what?

How about this one? Luck, check! Sweet scene, check! Effort, well, maybe, depending on what it took to get over to his position.

I kick myself every time I see a Pilatus shot; I cruised right on by years ago, on the train, didn't make the side trip.

Yeah, that's pretty awesome. And I agree, that is definitely worthy of a SC...if I were a screener, that is.

Every single shot in the database with at least one favorite IS a screener's choice.

Glad to see they no longer merit the space on the front page they once had.
