The 28-105 (you have it right in your text but you have a typo in the thread title) was my basic lens back in film days (Elan IIe) which I got rid of when I switched to digital because it was not wide enough. It was fine. I haven't used it on a digital body. If you can bump up a couple hundred bucks, consider the Sigma 17-70 which in my opinion has a more useful range and is quite sharp.
There is also the 24-85 which is similar in price and build quality, and might be a better focal length range for a crop sensor body than the 28-105.
