Default In the dark

Group,

Looking for some help with a recent reject.

This photo was dinged for Poor Lighting,...Too Dark.

http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...&key=214363225

So I slid the lighten shadows slider in PSE to make it slightly brighter. Or so I thought.

http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...&key=243043559

Another Poor Lighting reject.

Any suggestions as to what to do. I must admit I do like the photo on the dark side and I thought the details looked better with it being darker.

Thoughts?

Thanks for the time.

nice shot, but needs ccw rotation.

not sure what they want with the lighting. maybe bump up the exposure a bit?

Here is what I came up with. Played with middle slidier to brighten up. Bumped the shadows slider a small amount, +4ish. Bumped the contrast to bring back some color. Color cast remover on the smurf snow. Lastly a little boost in saturation.

Very cool image! I hope you can find the magic formula that pleased the almighty screeners.

Good luck!

Looks like nuclear winter in your edit, Anthony.

What do ya mean?? haha. Smurf snow is a personal pet peeve of mine. I prefer the "nuclear" look but everybody had their own preference.

Well I went back and attempted to reprocess it and this is what I came up with.
Any closer to what I don't know what they want or not?

Attachment 7204

I must not be understanding Dusk/Dawn lighting.

I *think* I fixed the possible unlevelness also.

Thoughts??

What's wrong with smurf snow? Shadowed snow is blue.

Smurf snow is more accurate than your interpretation. I've seen plenty of blue-toned snow in my lifetime but fortunately I've been able to avoid nuclear winter.

So, Smurf snow aside, am I any closer to getting this shot correct for RP viewership OR am I still leaning into the dark?

You might still need to go a smidgen lighter to appease the screeners, but I think it looks fine as is. And it sure feels cold in that image!

Hard to see much of a difference between the accepted shot and your firs reject, save for a bit different crop. Good job, I like it!

Well I went back and re-did from the original and came up with a acceptable to the screeners version.

Thanks for the help all and I liked the nuclear version with the cloud!

Until next time..............

Cute, very cute...haha Like I said, its a personal preference thing. Looking on my blackberry I went a little too red so let me clarify. Its not that I don't think snow can be blue, I just prefer the snow to not look like a blue raspberry slushie aka smurf snow. As far as the GCRX shots...I prefer the Mr Goldman's, hands down, but didn't the warm colored shot get screener's choice?? All about preferences. Heck, maybe if he had went with my suggestion (mushroom cloud in all) he could have got a screener's choice!

Back to the original subject. Great shot, glad it made it on! Makes me especially thankful I don't work in that climate anymore!
