Default opinions on edits

Just looking for some feed back on a 2 edits I did, click for larger

Original right out of the camera

raw process and some color correction to get the smoke to really stand out

best attempt at back dating a photo, high contrast old style edit (wanted to look like a 30s to 40s era photo.
Canon shooter
5D mk1 17-40L 24-105L 2 430 speed lights and triggers.

The edits aren't bad, but I'm wondering why you included so much ditch in the frame? I feel it would have been much more effective if you had just pointed the camera up a bit more to include the top of the smoke, and included very little foreground.

Train is a tad bit far away and the image needs to be rotated CCW.
Rhymes with slice, rice and mice, and probably should be spelled like "Tice."

To paraphrase the guys above me, work on framing and composing your shot out in the field first and foremost. Post processing can't fix that.

I hope you do not mind, but I've attached a quick crop that I personally think is much better. However, it still is a little bit unlevel. You probably want to get other members' advice though.
