Default Not The Type We Wish Versus 24 Hr

Two photographs taken three blocks away on the Chicago 'L' Loop and I went from a 24 hour favorite to something they say "is simply not the type of material we wish to publish." Both pictures have trains, 'L' trains, 4ft. 8.5 in. trackage, sunlight, an uncovered third rail, urban scenery. http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...27&key=2164486

FWIW, I would have accepted the tight curve shot. Maybe if the end of the train was visible, they would take it?

BTW, the very existence of an uncovered third rail anywhere is outrageous to me. Are there any statistics on the annual human/animal death and injury toll?

In the rejected photo it looks like you were mainly shooting into the sun. The reflection off of the roofs of the cars in the center of the photo doesn't work for me.

I'd mention that "fund raiser" was run to benefit the Fox Valley Trolley Museum which was vandalized and not sure of David's part but I know locally he promoted it. The train was also run express to recreate the Evanston Express.

Perhaps a more detailed description of both the cars and the reason for the train and a note to screeners would have helped. I think the story of an agency like the CTA becoming involved and making the effort(it was involved with the construction going on) to aid a museum is a compelling story. The CTA has a long history of involvement with IRM going back to Mr. Krambles. With all the museum photos, recreations etc, charters etc I think this photo could fit in somehow.

The photo on its own: I like the reflection and composition captures the essence riding the "L".

The glint on those cars is awful, in my view; they destroy the esthetics of the shot.

Maybe he could try at a different time of day, or even during a snowstorm. (With the first or last car visible.)

Thanks for all the responses...I'll get to them all. 1. Impossible to get all 6 cars on the tight curves on the Loop. I've got a another shot with more room, I'll try that shot later. Covered or not covered, the rail still can electrocute. Transit cars' shoes have to contact the rail, either from the top or the side. The covers do not protect contacting the rail. There was an internet video showing woman lying across the tracks, arm contacting the rail, smoke issuing from her body. Yes, it was in New York with their covered rail.
2. I thought the reflection on the roof was good, I see I was wrong.
3. The charter was a one-time opportunity. Our hope of a non-stop run was dashed....too much construction...berth at Linden was closed, welders replacing a switch. Tracks #3 and #4, out of service from Howard to Montrose, track work. Track #4 at Belmont, closed, they are working on a building next to the 'L'. Ah, the joys of planning charters.

Metro-North's former New York Central lines use an under-running third rail, which is covered on the top and sides. Even so, there was plenty of opposition when third rail was extended up to Brewster on the Harlem Line.

I thought the reflection was a good highlight and the glare was contained. Surprised a little you didn't try the Sheridan curve if you have the opportunity to unlock the conductor window. Anyway CTA photos for me are a little more than just a transit image. A group of us 9-13 year olds would take the trolley bus on Belmont and walk down to Elevated structure at Logan Square which was then the end of the line for what is now the blue Line. Then we could ride all we wanted except the Skokie Swift or the Evanston Line.

A lot later I was at IRM on a weekday and the 4000's were running which I thought was unusual. A couple of gentlemen were at the station waiting for the train. I said hello, my name is Bob Jordan. One of the men replied, Hi, I am George Krambles.

Ah ha! You've got my secret....unlocked windows, LOL. I've got shots at Sedgwick and North Ave. curves. At Sheridan we did the Snowflake run-by so I kept the windows closed so it wouldn't mar the view from the platform. Photographers transferred to a Red line train at Fullerton to get in front of the charter. We stopped in the curve so they could get their shots.
I"ll play with my other curve shots and see if I can get them accepted.

A bit. But some really awful things have sneaked in recently- leaning 2 degrees, bad color, blocked up shadows etc. One was so lacking in contrast I increased contrast 100 on a scale of 0 to 100. But I don't want to start any wars by posting them here.

Rob, thanks. That was a good suggestion.....use explanation. "Six cars of the CTA Heritage Fleet were used to run a "fund raiser" to benefit the Fox River Trolley Museum which was vandalized last summer. The train was also run express to recreate the Evanston Express. The color scheme gives a hint that the Boeing 2400 series debuted in 1976, at the heart of the Bicentennial era. After 38 years, the 2400s are retired from service, except the Heritage Cars and twenty more cars known as ”work motors.” The “fund raiser” is pictured on the reverse curves at North Ave."

Since there is no activity I'll hijack the thread for a post about the 2400's.
They had a farewell run, last time in regular revenue service. I started out riding from Howard then got off for some loop shots, ended up at Sheridan on the Red Line hoping for a Blue Hour arrival. Got a little late so it was dark. I got a decent arrival shot on the curve and then ran the 8 car lengths past commuters to get the going away shot as the train was already leaving.
