Default Ccky

Since I am now in Lafayette on the CCKY, thought I'd start a thread for discussion and photos. Sunday, no work so I am going to explore the line. Photos later

No trains today, so I thought I'd check out the line. First, south from Lafayette. South of Trion the mainline is plugged with storage cars.

Turntable at Summerville, still operates. Ex CofG caboose parked on it.

Concrete phone enclosure at Summerville

Former CofG depot at Summerville

The Mills at Trion. Scheduled to be switched on Tuesday

Maybe I can get the northern end of the line done this afternoon.

From the "north" end

Plenty of cars in the yard at Chickamauga

1804 parked in the yard at Chickamauga for the weekend

It is a beautiful mainline, scenery-wise

With slow train speeds and plenty of public viewing areas, this is an easy railroad to fan. All ops are done Mon - Fri in daylight.

The two units are together again at the Lafayette depot, I'll try to get some photos today.

Thanks for the photo tour. The photo of the yard at Chickamauga demonstrates what a nice shot in the arm the plastic pellet traffic for Shaw Carpets has been. They've been handling this traffic for a few years now, transloading pellets at Chickamauga and trucking them over to Dalton. Without this traffic and the closure of the line to Hedges after the chemical plant closed, there would be very little traffic on the CCKY. It would be nice to see an industry of some sort locate on the old TAG line and get that back running. The weeds are growing quickly, and I noticed a bridge partially collapsing just south of Cooper Heights. Amazing how quickly a line can deteriorate in the humid climate of the Southeast.

Mike, I doubt if you'll ever see the TAG line in service. Too many issues and it would cost a bundle to get it up and running.

I found these two sitting in front of the LaFayette depot this morning

The 102 was left in Trion but the 1804 is back in LaFayette. Heard that they might run the railroad from Trion to Chattanooga tomorrow, switching Chickamauga along the way.
