Default Good times!

I enjoyed getting to meet everyone - Jim Thias, Nick Benson, *.Blazczyk(2), Janusz again, etc etc... The conference presentations were great, and the railfanning we got in was great also. I plan to upload a few rejections in the next week.

No group shot (none that I participated in anyways), although had their been one of all of the atendees, it would have been very easy to spot the RP.net crowd (it'd be the guys not wearing tweed jackets).

Was cool meeting and/or seeing Thias, DeWitz, Blazczyk Bros, Janusz, Mark Valentine (Cinderpath), Ray(?) Peacock (Heartland Rails), Alex Lang, Louis Capwell, and everyone else. It's definitely something I plan on doing again next year.

Actually, he goes by a different first name. I can't recall if it was Dave on his name tag, but he definitely didn't have Ray on there.

I think Ray said that Dave is his dads name and what he uses a lot at events like that. Could be wrong.

Sorry I'll miss you yet again, Jim. Last minute decision not to go, maybe next year. I think what I want to do then is to plan a bit of a bigger outing, one or two days trackside, to make the trip more worthwhile for the airfare and so forth.

Saturday only for me as well. Friday railfanning out in the western Illinois sticks (leaving tomorrow afternoon) and Sunday working our way back to Michigan along various lines.

I'd rather spend a weekend with friends photographing trains, then spend a weekend talking about photographing trains..

If it weren't for the conference, Jim would never make the time to railfan, lol.

I've actually learned more about photography and improving my own in the three weekends I've "wasted" at the conference, then if I spent all my free time trackside. Plus, it seems like it's become the unofficial RP gathering of the year. Sadly, I won't be able to make it this year.

I've been going for the past five or so years, and this won't be an exception. I don't go to "shows" like winter rail" etc. It takes longer to go from dowtown to Lake Forest than you might think by Metra. Lots of little stops. I am arriving around 8 AM so I can check out the Chicago art museum. I'm leaving my Nikon cameras at home and taking only a really cool Leica IIIc (vintage 1942) and three early Leica lenses 35/50/90mm. I will load up with Ilford X3200 and see what I catch on the subways and Loop. Classic scenes with a classic camera--I can't go wrong here! I wouldn't wait to try & buy tickets at the door. I know at least one day was sold out several weeks ago. It's a small auditorium, after all. There is no "lack of railfan opportunity." Just come a day early or stay a day later. I did that last year and it worked out fine.

I must have been on some sort of automatic notify deal. It came out of the blue!

Midnight--I just got home from chasing trains. The snow is falling and the trains are running. I'm debating heading back out and chasing trains until dawn, and then calling in "sick". This could be the last major snow of the season. I'm pretty tired though. I was out last night in the sleet chasing trains until 2:30 AM. They ran out of crews and the van drivers were refusing to go out.
