Dissect This Reject!

Here's another one. Unless someone has a really hot idea I don't plan to resubmit.

I knew going in that there was a softness issue. I think I jumped when the left-hand loco jumped into view, so I tried to sharpen the shot a bit. I'm using Elements 5 and often use a high pass filter for sharpening, as well as the usual tools.

Then there are the light poles sticking out of the locos. Is this the poor image quality? Or is the shot just too "common"?

It looks like you literally jumped! There is a ghost above all the objects in the photo. I'm not sure whether this is from some PhotoShop tools or from actually moving the camera while the shutter was open. My guess would be the former.

If this appears on the original it would take a lot of work to clone out the 'ghosts'.

As for the composition, it doesn't float my boat.

Take a look at the area just above the number boards of the unit on the left. There's something very wrong.

It may not work here but I like it - besides the ghosting and the one pole is distracting. How many BNSF units have a yellow swoosh logo? First that I have seen. - from what I found on rpnet was that it is an 1 of a kind and has been well photographed with 2 full pages.

The ghosting was apparently something I did in an adjustment layer. Should have caught that before submission. Thanks.

Now back to finding a better location to shoot...

Randy,

Moving back and to your left some may have placed that pole in a less obvious place "on" the engine. It would have also "moved" the shadow to where it wasn't so predominant on the other engine. As far as yellow swooshes, there weren't many painted that way for obvious reasons. But I'd actually rather see one of these rather than the black swoosh. Which is just a horrible idea that someone came up with.

Any bets on wether the guy who came up with the swoosh got fired and later found a job designing CSX's 2008 employee calendar?

More likely the Nike calendar!
