Smile Gallery: Your RP dogs

Speaking of dogs, how about "showing off" your least favorite or least popular or somehow simply worst pic that somehow made it onto RP. This is a mission of mercy, since these are undoubtedly pics that desperately need some hits, so maybe we can help ease their pain.

This is an easy one for me:

OK it has over 600 hits, but this poor thing has been on RP for almost three years. Great location but the train came about 30 minutes too late and the shadows are way too long, etc. The image is cropped way too tight to minimize the shadows. I have seen some really nice pics taken here, but they weren't mine.

That certainly was the inspiration for this thread. But Mitch's dog didn't make RP....I dunno.

The demand is there to see Mitch humiliate himself again by campaigning for such an RP-sub-standard image.

Cool

Here's my dog. One of my latest so I guess we should give it time.

318 views, no comments, 5 favorites.

It's a good shot, perhaps a little too close but I wanted to show the wreath.

"That's a good dog!" "Woof!"

It's fine for them to do so, I welcome it in fact, but what I do have a problem with is that the practitioners of the more "arty" shots, I have found, tend to look down their nose's at others who are shooting more "mundane" shots.
Railroad photography is what you make of it, but one way is not "better" than another, IMHO. Unless you have a pole right thought the nose of the engine! -SG

Cool! More ways to get views!!!!
Here's mine. I was trying to put a little history into this shot but no one viewed it. I will have to explore new angles of this depot in the future since I didn't have too much time to compose this shot when I took it.

Good luck topping this one. the scanning, lighting, composition, cropping, sharpness, all bad. I wouldn't dream of submitting this now.

I've had my share of shots that were disappointments in terms of the number of views they've gotten during their "run" (1st 24 hrs). For me personally, if a shot breaks 200 views in 24 hrs, it was worth the time to select it, process it, upload it and compose a caption. I consider anything over 350 views to be pretty good and anything over 500 views on the first day to be a great success.

Despite a lack of success in the intial run, I don't really consider shots to be kennel candidates unless they fail to break 500 views in a year. My most recent woofer was this one:

Yeah, it's a trolley shot trying to survive in a diseasel world. At least it's colorful, sharp, and decently exposed. It guess most viewers looked at it like a roster shot. It won't stop me from trying to find new angles on Lowell, however.

My current lowest shot was only uploaded last week, though at 328 views it is doing quite well for a plain old UK wedgie.

Next two (both on 350 as I type)

added 4th April 2006, so I guess this one is the real dog.

Not sure why the first photo has done so badly; it is not a stellar shot by any means but I consider it slightly better than some of my other stuff further up the view charts.

For this gallery, I picked some photos that were rather commonplace when taken and uploaded (all prior to July 2006), but contain things that can no longer be shot now, specifically retired locomotives. All shots have no comments, no favorites, and relatively small numbers of views compared to how long they have been in the database. I picked only a handful, I have come to realize that more and more of my early RP photos are unobtainable now.

330 views in nearly three years. Definitely a dog. I've got a few more like it. One of these days I'll get around to deleting them...

Is it appropriate to delete our dogs? Or should we live with them for the world to see. I have never really thought about that. If it is a post processing problem I have resubmitted a lot of images with hopefully better versions. I wonder how many people ask to have images deleted?

No matter how bad a shot is, I will never delete it. I spend a lot of time using sites like RP to scout for future trips, so every shot, no matter no bad it is, shows me what the light is like, or if there is a fence along the track, etc. Plus, the ease of the search function on RP is light years ahead of other sites like RRPictureArchives.

Oh my word, yes. If RRPA had a better search function it would be loads more valuable.
