Default A Three-Sided Affair

So I shot this the other morning and I shot it at 640 ISO on my Nikon D70, which unfortunately is bordering on too grainy for the conditions. I have been trying to balance exposure, grain, and sharpness. I haven't succeeded. Here are two sample rejects.

Underexposed: http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...d=873506&key=0
Soft: http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...&key=427176924

Can it work? What should I do?

I don't think it's going to work, Peter. Too much noise and the rail on the 2nd shot looks weird, maybe too much noise reduction tool.

Its a grainy shot of common Amtrak stuff at the time of day too early for glint, too late for night shots, the flash doesnt help. The noise on the second rejection is really eating away at the details.

Buy or download Noise Ninja... Or, better solution, don't shoot Amtrak.
