Default STS-135 Atlantis "Final Space Shuttle Mission"

I have been away from RP.Net and the forums for the past few months, but that doesn't mean I haven't been taking photos. I thought I would share some of what I have taken of the final space shuttle mission.

I have always been a fan of the US Space Program so having the opportunity to be this close to it was an incredible experience. 99.9% of the events I was shooting were happening for the final time, so I had to do my best to shoot everything I could and not screw up!

This was one of the hardest shoots I have ever done, sleep is pretty much out of the question and long hours in the mosquitoes infested swamps are normal.

The closest camera I had to the launch pad for launch was inside the pad perimeter about 600ft away from the shuttle. If a human was standing here during launch the sound vibration would turn your insides to mush. The cameras are triggered by specially built sound triggers which start firing the camera at main engine ignition.

Below is a link to the full gallery of photos.

Incredible series Walter. You were lucky to have witnessed this event.

How did you get access to the launch pad? Were you shooting for someone, like a newspaper or magazine?

Walter, I have been meaning to write; I ran across the first shot above, somewhere, it is stupendous. Lots of fantastic images in the set, well done!
