Default 3 people hit by trains in my area

So over the weekend 3 people were hit by a train and 2 of them were killed in two separate incidents within only a few miles of one another. Looks like NS police will put a damper on my railfanning for now.

That tends to happen when you happen to be walking on tracks and a train is coming

It boggles my mind that railfans wouldn't be able to hear a train coming.

If the 2 killed were fanning, that's just ridiculous. Yes, the general public should be aware of trains but the .00000001% of the population that foams should definitely be aware and know how to act around tracks.

It should be common sense not to walk on tracks but I guess no one has that anymore. Kids in my town walk on the tracks everyday walking home from school. You can hear crews warning others all the time about it. Heard one crew yell at a couple kids one day. That was nice.

Agreed. And it makes me wonder, were they really railfans or just some dorks taking pics and they happened to be on the tracks?

Most railfans I know have hearing that is clued into the sound of a diesel locomotive from miles away. I know I am. There is no way on earth that one could be running within 10 feet of me and for me to not know it's there. I just don't get it.

Exactly. I hear trains from miles off even when I'm not fanning. I was fishing today 7 miles from the nearest track and heard one.

So I gotta go with the dorks taking pics theory.

You see them all the time in the New River Gorge. Tourists that have no concept of vehicular or railed traffic. All they can focus on is the pretty, and they walk like they own the world. The world sometimes ends up owning them.

From what I heard they were railfaning but thats just word of mouth. As for the noise NS Abrams yard begins right there so the horns had to be blowing. Either way just pure stupidity. Heck last night I was waiting for the Wabash and Southern to come and here comes a group just wandering up the center tracks of a busy section.
