Default A brief stint at the wheel of a GP38-2

Saturday was a great day to be a rail fan. A local shortline hired me to do some roster shots of two of their engines. The engines were coupled together and we had to spot them in an area with a neutral background and then separate 'em. The trainmaster told me to "Climb aboard", but more surprisingly pointed me to the engineers chair.
Although we only went a few hundred feet and didn't exceed 9 mph, it was quite a rush to be in control for a couple minutes and something I'll never forget.

Getting hired to take pictures of a train and getting to control it for a little while, not too shabby!

I know the feeling. When I was about ten and the railroad still came to town, the engineers acually let me ride it a few times and I even drove it once. It was also a GP38 and at the end of a branch line so no one (the stupid excluded) could get hurt. They knew us really well, and could spot our Jeep the second it arrived.

I've been in the chair a few times myself, and It DEFINATELY is one of those things that sticks in your head forever. I'd have to say, Nice railroad, hiring you for shots and then even letting you run the engine! Too bad other railroads arent as friendly.
