Default Bad cropping?

http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...&key=287865875
Didn't expect this to get nailed for that, do you think the light is the killer or is the cropping actually the major issue?
It's funny, because I expected this to be the one dinged for bad cropping.

On the rejected shot, I think the problem is that the train is cropped too tightly on the right side. But you're right, even if you adjust the crop, the light may sink it. The snow and the sky are pretty featureless and the light on the subject doesn't make it pop. If it were me, I would probably move on to another shot unless there were some compelling reason to try to get it on RP...like if I knew the Engineer, or something like that.

WRT the accepted shot, I would never have guessed you'd have any worries about the cropping. It looks fine to me.

I think the biggest problem of all is that you can't see the wheels touching the rails. In my book that alone kills the shot.

The rejected shot just is not your usual work. To much white, lacks details, and as Mike pointed out, bottom of train is cut off which kills a shot that has nothing else to offer.

I think it's my usual work, but my usual work needs work
I could bring out some more snow detail and pop the engines out more, do you think that there's a crop that could work? (either in or out)
