Default Crane Composition

I have a question about the composition of this image. Is the whole crane in the shot worth it? Also, is everything cropped good?

Here's another angle I might try. Are things like the color, contrast, and lighting okay?

I like the composition of the first one better. I think having the whole crane in it makes the shot work. You did well to use a vertical composition. The second has too much negative space on the left and should be recropped. In both images, the horizon seems unlevel. They need to be rotated to the right. Also, both seem dark to me. If you can get them cropped and tuned up right, I think both would make interesting additions to the database.

Compositional elements aside, which I prefer the second, both seem underexposed -- the first moreso than the second.

Here's another try at the first one. Do you think it looks better as far as lighting goes?
