Although I haven't seen them myself, a good friend reports that there are now signs on the walkways of Bear Mountian Bridge announcing that "photography or videography" are prohibited. Very sad...

Reminds me of a Maryland railroad (http://www.railpictures.net/forums/s...ead.php?t=2485)

Rob, who owns the bridge? Is it public
property?

I am not familiar with the area. But I saw a picture today which listed the location as Bear Mtn State Park. Is this one in the same?

The sky is falling, the sky is falling. Al Quaida is going to bring down the USA by taking photos from the bridge. I'd like to see this one stand up in court. What a laugh!!!!!

The good news is, this likely has more to do with the ships passing through there then with the trains. However, it's still ridiculous.

Can someone provide a link to an official statement or better yet a picture of the actual bridge? I don't doubt the "ban" on photography. I would just like to see something official on it. It's the journalistic instinct coming out. I don't want to sendthis out without proof.

I called the bridge office & inquired about this. NY State has, at the request of the HSA, drawn up a list of terrorist targets & ALL big bridges are on it. Since terrorists have been known to use photography while checking out their future attacks, they made the decision to ban photography.

All is not lost, however. If you are a serious photographer & feel you must shoot from that bridge, you can apply for permission. They run a background check on you & then you can shoot photos.
