Default High Sun, I don't See it

Hi all! I recently had this shot rejected, and rejected on appeal for high sun:

http://www.railpictures.net/viewreject.php?id=298132

I really don't see the problem. The trucks were painted blacker than black. The sun was at a low angle, and hitting the trucks. Could it be that I tried to lighten the trucks with an image editor? Thanks for any help!

Hi Adam,
The trucks are really dark in the pic as the rays of the sun hit alittle area of the trucks but i canot see ahigh sun angel from the shadows.I think that it maybe be accepted if you lightened the trucks with editing software as its really avery nice shot and well cropped.

I use Microsoft Picture it 99, and I can't get any "real looking light". You can sort of see in the photo posted above how the trucks look sort of white where I tried to lighten them, and it looks sort of hokey. Is there any editing program where you can get real looking sunlight? Thanks!

It is the same in photoshop too as i run it through photoshop and saw that trucks become something white. As the trucks arenot lightened in the original so i canot be lightened in the edited pic.
Try to shot it again when there is direct rays of the sun hit the trucks and the shadowed areas is little compared to the lighten areas.

Adam,

It's a neat shot of the caboose, but the problem is the light is coming straight in from the end, so the trucks are in shadow. The fact that they are painted black makes it worse. Using your image editing software just makes it look fake. I think the shot is interesting enough, even with the dark trucks, but there is at least one screener that just won't accept shots with shadows on the trucks. Any chance you can shoot the caboose another day with the light coming in from the side? If you can do that, you won't have any problems.

Yeah Michael, I can probably shoot it again one of these days, but I do live about 60 or 70 miles from there. The family was out for a fall ride, and we came across this. Thanks!
