California is a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. One of my brothers lives in LA and I do visit once in a while.

Last time, my wife and two daughters along with my brother went to Disney Land and I went to Tehachupi.

Before I lived here, my first visit (I was 16), my family went to Disneyland, and I went to hang out at Colton Tower. Saw a lot of trains that day.

However, the Sacramento area rocks. I lived there once and I'd live there again in a heartbeat if I could. I wish I was still living there.

You are a sick man. I think you need to catch a few more trains to get it out of your system.

I've never thought this place rocked at all over the last 17 years. However, being here puts you behind the rock with the hard place just in front.

There are worse places to live than California but I'm not coming up with any. Well, McMurdo might not be all that great but it beats Lodi or Turlock.

How about Watts or Inglewood? I ate lunch in Inglewood once... I won't do that again, ever. I'd never seen an abandoned mall before that day...

There are also McDonalds that have closed down and gone out of business.

I didn't think that was possible.

Watts? Inglewood? Sacramento?

Let's try some of the real reasons people live here... Coronado, La Jolla, Torrey Pines, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Montecito, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo... I can come up with a thousand more if you need.

Today, we have the bluest of blue skies. It's going to up to the 70s. The lack of humidity seems to help keep the insect popluation way down. The famous smog has pretty much vanished over the last ten years.

And as far as why it's so expensive to live here? As I've noted before, it's the same reason why front row or 50-Yard Line tickets are so much more expensive...

Hmmm.... after work, I think I'll take a nice bike ride on the beach.

Have fun, whever you are... busy hatin on us.

Charles, would you just stop already!

Don't tell them that, they will want to come here and stay.

There are already too many Midwest and Northeast expats living here.

Or better yet let me put it in the simplest terms, are there not enough people jumping into your shots already?

Why invite more?

Not to defend Watts or Inglewood. But we have had abandoned malls here in my area before, and we have relatively low percentage of ghetto.

1. Tampa Bay Center (Tampa): purchased by a local sports team to be torn down and used as their new corporate HQ/practice facility but sat vacant and abandoned for several years. The mall, when it closed was only 10-15 years old. (was the region's ONLY multi-level mall) (not in a bad part of town).

2. Clearwater Mall (Clearwater): a very nice mall in a very nice part of town, which for whatever reason closed and sat vacant and abandoned for at least 5 years before it was leveled and a new "super Target" and several other outparcels were built where it was. This mall only really existed for about 10-15 years, kind of sad.

3. East Lake Square Mall (Tampa): in a not very nice part of town, a few miles from "the hood", sat abandoned for 3 years before the inside was gutted and now used very successfully as massive office space and call centers.

4. Floriland Mall (Tampa): in a not very nice part of town, a few miles from "the hood", died in phases, when Montgomery Ward went out of business, it was the last operating entity in the mall, the whole place closed. Parts of it were bought by the state and local government which used it as office space, but have since pulled out. It now sits vacant and an eyesore.

5. Sunshine Mall (Clearwater): Pretty much died when Clearwater Mall was built in the 80's, it seemed like the whole place died overnight, but sat vacant for 5 years before it was razed and now Condos exist in it's footprint. (not in a bad part of town)

There is another mall that is currently dying and is in "the hood", but somehow has managed to stay open. The only major store still there is Sears and Macy's, but somehow it hangs on. University Square Mall (Tampa).

Also, of all places, Augusta, GA has an abandoned mall I found that is VERY creepy looking. Google "Regency Mall" in Augusta, GA. for it's story. Just sitting there rotting, a real eyesore.

I ain't hatin' on CA homes, but 70 degrees and bike rides on the beach? Ouch! Blizzard here (well, was supposed to be the storm to end all storms... not quite that great), you can't sell CA with heat an liquid water. Snow, snow, and if you can work it in, more snow, please

Gee Charles, did you forget about the other California north of SLO?

Monterey, Carmel, Pebble Beach, Santa Cruz, San Fran, the North Coast, Yosemite, etc.

As an escaped California Native, I found most people who visited California and found it, shall we say, lacking, visited So Cal. Never venturing out of the Basin.

Doesn't the reduced smog have a correlation with the reduced industry?

Man, this thread sure took a hard left turn.

All great places, Steve... I agree.

Yes, reduced industry is a good part of the cleaner air.

In the two years I lived in Sacramento I absolutely loved it. I have missed that place every day for the past 20 years since I lived there last. Going back there for two different vacations in '09 just made me miss it even more.

Wow, some people leave California for whatever reason, and others wish they never left. But the ones that do leave, leave the rest of the country CALIFORNICATED.

As much as I love Cali... I would move back to NJ in an instant if it weren't for the weather... and my job... and my kids' friends... and my wife and my friends... and being a part of the community... dang... I don't know if I'm ever going to get home.
