I'm amazed that when you go to the top shots of the week, you have to go to page 6 to see this shot, currently at only 1377 views uploaded on Friday. and I don't think it made top shot in 24hrs either, I could be wrong

Default Worth A PCA

Well, I gave it a well deserved PC Nomination and I'm sure others did also so it may get 'seen more' yet...

Subways aren't my cup of tea either, but I can recognize a beautiful photo when I see one. I commented (it should get posted shortly), favorited and PCA'd that shot. Dennis doesn't need any photo charters or expensive, long-distance photo trips. He's kicking butt right there in his own back yard!!

I'm normally not a fan of subway shots either, but I thought this one was great. Well executed and processed. Definitely a fan and job well done.

Why it didnt get views? Who knows, I quit guessing at why/how some shots get more views than others. I had what I thought was one of my run of the mill shots get TO24 and 3000+ views in one day, beating out a shot that got a POTW in daily views and is now my 6th most popular (by views) photo on this site. It's a mystery. And I am not one of those people who link my shots elsewhere, or whore them out on yahoo groups or lists just to get views. Although I will whore it out right here.

Dennis's shot should have received a SC. I'm thinking a #1 PCA might be in order though. And it totally sucks that I can't click on the pic in the first post and vote for it. What an annoying RP glitch.

Wow. You seem just now to understand a frustration I had long debated on RP seemingly without sympathy.

Bring back the Editors Choice or find a way to better promote shots that go well beyond the norm in composition or skill set required to visualize and capture. Other then EC, most "favorited" vs most popular would've assured the image a spot on the front page which seems the only way to reach a thousand views in the first week.

As it was - Dennis had the misfortune to submit in between two nostalgic wreck shots and a flood shot. Not sure what the fourth shot was that kept Dennis's shot from hitting the front page. A POTW, despite a recent pick, would be well in order.

On RP's behalf (what is it with a screener that does not SC such a shot?), an SC is allegedly just that. One viewer's favoriting of a shot he just happened to be screening. It is not "deserved" nor earned any more then a favorite from any other viewer. It just happens to have front page status. On RP's behalf - the SC's no longer hog as much space on the front page and there are now 4 slots vs two for top of the day. Dennis just had bad luck in the timing to make most viewed, err, most "popular" of the day. A PC is a sure thing, again, a nice RP perk, to have an alternate route to the front page, and hence, a larger audience.

I'm guessing this Chris was not the screener at the time:

POTW. It'll surely get the views it deserves now.

As if it wouldn't get those views anyway as a PC...

And now some overlooked image will sink deeper into the database seen only by 600 people or so. But, hey, that's the perception, great images deserve as many RP badges as possible and Dennis's shot is among the best on the site. Glad my suggestion was in sync with that of admin - now it will be seen not only for the next two weeks but among "most commented and favorited" of all time.

Dave Humphries of Cambridge in Colour says it best:
http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/forums/thread22889.htm

This is a term that may mean more to people of English background than other cultures. To give a little background, a tack is a small nail which WAS used typically to hold down carpets in Britain, I have no idea whether other European or American carpet fitters ever used them. They are (and yes, I have drawn blood while using them), very sharp, which was due to their manufacturing process of slicing metal up, then sticking the head on.

In photographic parlance, it just means 'as sharp as can be' - in other words (as you already know), the image sharpness is very good, with fine detail clearly resolved (under the right conditions).

For all intensive purposes, Mitch was trying to make a point and your being mean by mocking him. Its not funny. He's making more sense then you guys are, to.
