Default NS SD9's

Everytime I open my roster book and I look at NS I see their 10 SD9's listed at the very top, and I get an urge to get down south and find them before they're retired. Well, this spring break (driving to and from Florida) may be the perfect opportunity to find at least one of them before they're gone. The only problem is I have no idea where they are. Does anyone kno where they are based and can anyone PM with any updates on their whereabouts? Thanks in advance.

Don't quote me, but I think I remember reading on the Carolina Rails Yahoo Group that they're out of Durham. Its somewhere in Central NC, I know that much. Just can't remember the exact location.

There's a blurb at The Diesel Shop about these units:

Default NS SD-9's

As of a few months ago there where 1 or 2 of the SD-9's in ATL. They are hard to catch as they are mostly kept around the yard and used in short runs to the FORD plant, sometimes they get up to Chamblee on the Peidmont sub as well.

Maybe when the Ford plant shuts down they will send the SD9's to NC. I am still trying to find the ones that are supposed to be in the Tarheel State before NS takes the torch to them. If anyone knows where they are please make it known.

Thanks to all for the info. so far, but I;m still looking for a definite location update basically. I have a while (until April) for that but I might as well let everyone have it in their minds now to look out for them. Another update I know of is that NS sent as many as 8 of the 10 to NC, but then I read on a NS loco site that 2 were recently retired making the current tally 8. I know they took the ones out of Ohio and sent them to NC but Im too sure whether or not they left the few in GA or also sent them further north.

Looking forward to further reports.

Default NS SD9Ms

Your best chance to see the NS SD9Ms on the ECBU will be at Glenwood yard in Raleigh,NC. They have also been used on locals based out of Fuquay-Varina,NC and Wilson,NC.

Here are a few pictures...

As far as I know the SD9Ms aren't on the local out of Fuquay-Varina right now,but they could possibly be back by the time of your trip.

I am leaving tomorrow morning for spring break down in Florida. I will be staying over in Cary, NC with family and will have some time to do some railfanning in the area. I was wondering what the status of the SD9's in the area is. Will they be running either Wednesday (April 12) or Thursday (April 13) on any of the lines around Raleigh, NC? And exactly what line do they usually run? What lines are the busiest around the Raleigh, NC area (radius of about 5-10miles)?
