Gallery: Breaking the rules
Since we haven't had a gallery in freaking forever, I just had to come up with one...and I liked the idea. Post your shots that break the typical rules, but still made it on for some reason or another.
Cloudy, but made it on, cause it was a pan.

High Sun, or would have been if I shot from track level. 4:00 in the afternoon in June.

Cloudy, and pssst! It's a panorama from 4 portrait images:

Backlit, high sun, and expected to be PEQ:

Recently I've tried to submit a 3:1,8 crop image, IMO this ratio fits much better the scene, but that was dinged for BC:

Nice idea, not always that, that we want to show has perfect light conditions, there are in us to make a different shot and/or interesting one.
I have some poor lighted too!

Many can do it, very few would like to be known as such.
As to the original direction of the thread. Basically everything I've submitted over the last year and a half has been at night, cloudy, or backlit.

Well, think we should start here, since it was discussed earlier, and I know the owner won't consider it a call out.

How about we re-name this thread to "Gallery: Soon to be removed photos from the database" and it could be a collage of California pans and selective color.

I personally have had a problem with those trying to tell us to turn railroad photography into an "art form." It's fine for them to do so, I welcome it in fact, but what I do have a problem with is that the practitioners of the more "arty" shots, I have found, tend to look down their nose's at others who are shooting more "mundane" shots.
Railroad photography is what you make of it, but one way is not "better" than another, IMHO. Unless you have a pole right thought the nose of the engine! -SG

Some of my favorite shots have been taken in miserable weather. With steam locomotives, I say bring it on. Rainy, snowy weather adds so much to a shot when photographing steam.

My friend said this is "a sign, some red and a bunch of black" but I like the effect.

I'm not sure what this is, but I've always considered this my worst accepted shot. I might go and re shoot it this fall.

Actually that would qualify as common power from what I was told. I was told the 475 at Strasburg is common power because I could shoot it again even though it is the only N&W steamer running, so I would thing a UP steamer would qualify as well! Hahahahaha!!
