Texas State Railroad 500

Does anyone know what happened to number 500 on the Texas State railroad, I checked their site and it said 500 was down 1472, any idea what that means?

Yeah, airbrake valve change out. 1472 is the amount of days between FRA required change out. Hope this helps!

I suspect they are referring to the FRA required 1472-operating day (or 15 years, if earlier) steam locomotive inspection. This is a pretty intensive inspection that requires quite a few man-hours to complete. Milwaukee Road #261 is down for a 1472-day currently as well.
