Question Cropping

Is there someone who can me explain something about the guideline for cropping?

For example, these 2 picture were rejected because of bad cropping:
- http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...0&key=13524736

How can I improve these pictures?

Marcel,

I believe that it both cases the crops are too tight. You need to give a little more room for the subject matter to breathe within the image.

Are these straight out of the camera or did you crop them down? If there is more image there that you cropped away, it's a simple solution, to restore some more of the surroundings.

If these are straight out of the camera, I wonder if you have other frames on which you didn't zoom in quite so tight.

Everything else on these appears fine to me. The only issue I see is that they are cropped too tight.

I agree on too tight. Plus, #1 may be because you cut the person and light pole on the left edge, and #2, RP tends to like a natural edge like a tree of building if you are going to cut a train off.
