Default Bad Color Help

Hi everyone:

I had a couple of shots get dinged for bad color and was hoping I could get a little advice.

http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...key=1267780454

I take it that the orange in the first one does not have the "pop" that it should? I try not to get carried away with saturation, and this one looked pretty true to life to my eye. I try not to get carried away with the saturation on these shots.

In the second one, the MAC is very faded, and again looks washed out. But it seems like a pretty true representation of what the loco looks like in person.

Looking for opinions on whether I should reprocess and try again, appeal, or drop them. Also, if you suggest reworking them, what is the suggested technique to make the color "good"?

Thanks, Jim

Jim, it definitely looks as if you SHOULD get carried away with the saturation. I noticed that on another one of your shots, and I'll post a comparison of one of mine in similar light (same sky, same sun angle, just a little earlier in the day):

Don't be afraid to bump up the saturation a bit to make the BNSF orange pop. It may be your monitor isn't calibrated correctly, either. I've noticed on a quite a few of your BNSF shots that the orange just looks a bit flat or washed out.

Default Yeah, but...

All sound advice, but the one of the Mac is an accurate depiction of this class on BNSF. Many, many are faded just as that one. The Mac should've been accepted.

Notes to screeners have always been helpful when I used them.

I think a little brightening up and a little increase in saturation would get them accepted, they look slightly underexposed to me.

Thanks, I will pump up the orange on the first and give it another go. I may just appeal the other one, that was a pretty nasty looking MAC.

Agree about them being faded, but I think a more accurate rejection would have been bad contrast. If he bumps up the contrast a bit, the entire scene will pop more.
