Talking A challenge to the older posters......

Here are two of my pictures posted on RP taken 50 years apart. Can any of our "senior" contributors beat 50 years?

I might add that after posting 245 pix here, sorting them by oldest date first is an interesting way to help me remember what the heck I did with my misspent youth, and in what order I misspent it.

I'm not even 50 years old yet, and, quite frankly, even when I was 2 I was still having problems with foreground clutter. I think that is because I wasn't tall enough to shoot over the weeds.

I can beat you if I'm allowed to use my dad's pics... but I'm not 50 yet myself (although pretty close) so I can't compete one on one.

Cool Good news bad news

The good news is I'm still willing and able to wade through knee deep snow in Michigan to snap a picture. The bad news is it IS the Fossil Award.

I'm barely half as old as the time span between shots!

Although not my 1st photo accepted to RP, it is the 1st by date.

My latest is this one, which I was rather impressed with being my first blizzard shot attempt and getting in without rejection.

That is 21 months of rail shooting. Hell, that is 21 months of shooting anything, not counting "snap-shots." I must have learned something from the RP staff, and you guys (and gals) in the forums. They seem to be getting in easier. So far, it looks like I am the 33 Y/O baby of the group.

Thanks guys from this picked up a camera one day and thought I'd try to be a photographer guy.

Well I can't beat John's 50 years, not even been on this earth that long yet!

My oldest (date-wise) so far is 26th April 1993

though I have been taking railway photos on a regular basis since 1985. I will interested to see how the older stuff, which is on negatives, scans up compared to the slides that I am (slowly) working my way through at present.

Latest offering is last Saturday (16th February)

My husband (John) is a little closer to giving some of the older contributors a run for their money

His oldest, some time in 1976 (sorry he was not to good on exact dates )

Latest offering, also last Saturday and, strangely enough, of the same class of loco

You're welcome to join me any time, John. I'll carry the respirator for you.

Geez...if only I had paid attention in photography class back when I was in high school...

Oh, the difference that upgrading to digital and actually learning how to use one's camera makes!

My 3 oldest shots here were taken in February 1970 and my 4 newest were taken last weekend, on February 17, 2008.

I hadn't thought about it before, but that is a span of 38 years.

Crud ... I must be old.

Makes me glad I did and was/am shooting the way I did/do. Even my old film stuff isn't that terrible from the late '90s. I will be digging those out in the next few months to widen the year gap some more. Right now my earliest is from Oct 2001:

to now (Feb 2008:

7 years, not too shabby for a 19 y/o.

Red face I've been beat.........

I think I've been beaten, and by a wide margin. And not surprisingly by John Dziobko. His first posted picture with a date was dated January 1950, the most recent July 6, 2005. So looks like I can dodge the Fossil Award for at least another five years.

55 years for JD - impressive!

This is one of those questions sometimes better unanswered - especially considering 2000 was 8 years back!

27 for me, I'll have to dig up some old 110 film prints prior to that.

Mitch - I love that you caught the UA Turbo Train (even if it was just a junker sitting on the side). I wonder why I never figured out it was there. I was railfanning then and would have gone to see it. My dad had shot it in 1979? sitting in Ivy City and when I didn't find it there a few months later (when I started freshman year at GWU) I assumed it was scrapped. (His pics came out really poorly). CF

As an aside, I post my first ever train picture, and my dad's picture of me taking the same shot, from May 1970. Don't think either will make RP.net though. I do have a better (edited) version of the B&W here if you're curious.
