First of all, that is absurd! I hope that you can arrange a place where your stuff can be preserved somehow. At least it can stay on RP! Maybe I need to start begging for prints. Seriously, I hope there is some arrangement you can make.

Second, has anyone thought about this? I'm 45, so I'm not thinking about it, just general interest, wondering what people do. I don't think any of mine are worthy, and I suppose my family will take them and keep a CD in a shoe box; 40 years down the road the format will be unknown and it will not be readable! Hmm, I need to set up a box with my favorites printed.

BTW, what is the RP policy, what happens when a contributor dies? I suppose if no one tells RP, the pictures stay forever, maybe that has happened already. If RP is informed, what does it do?

Curious, rambling mind on a Friday night!

Well, here's a thread addressing AirNikon's death:

Thanks, Chris. The thread didn't mention this, but in fact AirNikon's shots remain on RP for all to see.

I have thought about this because things do happen and sometimes without warning. My family or more specifically my brother becomes the owner of my collection God forbid anything happens because I trust him and I know he sees the same thing I see in each photo.

I do plan on getting prints made of all my favorites or my more historic shots just in case the many CD-Rs and DVD+Rs do get forgotten about or are not readable as mentioned.

Right now I plan on being able to go through my extensive collection 40 years down the road and remembering when gasoline was $3 a gallon or maybe when gasoline was used in automobiles!

Besides AirNikon, I know of two other posters here in RP.net who have died and, of course, their images live on.
