Color?

Any ideas how to address the color in this one?

The color is blah here. Make sure your historgram is a good as possible. Color issues get more in control with correct exposure.

Also cropping is tight, and the big shadow pulls the eye away from the train.

Just my MO which has been proven wildly off base.

Hey Dan, you already know that I really like this shot, especially because it captures Maine railroading so well. If I try to look at it critically, it might be a little bright. Maybe try darkening it a little and see if it makes the "Guilford Grey" a little darker (which it is) and makes the orange stripe a little darker and more of a red-orange. And going along with what Dennis said about the cropping--if you're able to--maybe open-up a little more space to the right of the lead unit (maybe by another tree or so).
