Well - there's certainly MUCH more that is great about RP then what is not. It's just the what's not is sooooooo.... #@$@#, lol.

Bad color. If I desaturate them, they stand a better chance of being accepted.

My experience has been just the opposite. Weird.

These days I get nailed for saturation issues with the Velvia slides. I'm done with uploading slides here. I need to spend my morning before work time on the treadmill instead. It will improve my physical condition and by not trying to upload slides, it will improve my mental condition as well.

He is a complete moron on Facebook.

It's fine for them to do so, I welcome it in fact, but what I do have a problem with is that the practitioners of the more "arty" shots, I have found, tend to look down their nose's at others who are shooting more "mundane" shots.
Railroad photography is what you make of it, but one way is not "better" than another, IMHO. Unless you have a pole right thought the nose of the engine! -SG

Uber-conservative political "discussions" where if he doesn't quite like your comment it will get deleted. And if he consistently doesn't like your comments, he'll unfriend you. That sort of thing.

I'll have to check to see if we're still Facebook friends. I "hid" him sometime around the time I asked my question on the first page of this thread simply because I enjoy his railroad photography too much to be distracted by his anti-RP rants and political posts. He's a great shooter!

Well, I don't mind his political POV (and especially his anti-Obama rants), so his comments don't bother me. In fact, I find them very entertaining.

Having my news feed constantly spammed with posts overblowing the significance of the Benghazi attacks got really old, seemed like he did nothing but rant about that............I think I had to unsubscribe from half of my railfan friends on FB due to all the stupid and illogical political posts before the election. Atleast it seems like Steve is back to just posting train photos, most of which are awesome.

The remove from news feed feature makes Facebook palatable.

I think alot of it has to do with the age of the photo, if it is accepted. However I do like this photo the grainy side of it almost adds to it.

That is what is really sad about it. All that railroad history not being added to the database for future generations. Mike

Mike, without defending RP in any specific instance, we don't need RP to be a repository for every image. RRPA suffices, and there are other sites. RP tries to do its own thing, or things, and we can complain about how it does them, but being the complete repository is not one of them, and I at least am fine with that.

I agree, J. Plenty of awesome train photos on flickr (which took some convincing from Brent Kneebush for me to see that).

I shot K200 for years as I only had cloudy days off work or so it seamed how that worked out I don't know. I never was one to worry about it to much, Grain was part of life if one need faster film. I will never try to upload here? maybe but don't need to be frustrated

I enjoy a lot of the railroad stuff on Flickr, because some of those folks aren't concerned with some limitiations that RP specifically and railroad photographers puts on the stuff. This is not meant as a slam on RP, but it's nice to look at some stuff that is really good but stands no chance of ever being accepted here.

Lightbulb You can look at Flickr for free.

I enjoy Flickr too, because they don't have trains in the way of all the naked lady pictures.

And the chicks are hotter than your average rail hoe.

I can't disagree with either of those! In fact, the Operation: Lifesaver website specifically states that photographers and models should stay aay from the tracks unless the model is really hot and naked.
