Default Definition of bad motive

Hi all,

Am new to the forum with quite a few pics up. Most of my photos have been accepted and my experience with RP has been a positive one and helped me see some bad habits.

I had two turned down for 'bad motive.' Can someone give a newbie the definition of this? Thanks!

Rich

Bad motive, from my perspective, equals 'bad motivation.' In other words, your motive for taking a particular shot was a poor one.

For example, I tried to take a picture of a train going by behind me from the side rearview mirrow of my car while also trying to capture another set of tracks in front of my car. Just by that setup, you're probably thinking, "What the hell was he thinking?" That's bad motive...

Default Bad Motive

I have submitted photos of a section of abandoned track, a trestle, and a signal, that were branded "bad motive" See link. This photo was taken as a train was approaching, and I thought it was a really cool shot.

I also think part of the motive of the photo you shoot, has to contain relevant detail, such as a factual description of the content of the photo relating to the railroad. I submitted the photo with no detail other than the location, thinking it was just a cool shot. I read in a previous forum that viewers of RP like to see trains!

*That* is a VERY cool shot! Saved it to my archive. I usually don't go in for no-train shots either but sometimes there are really good ones that I can't resist:
