Bad angle again

Enjoy the photo while it's here... can't see any problem myself-what do you think? (200mm hand held, both trains were moving fast) I know it's slightly off kilter but I'll probably rescan it anyway.

hmm...that is kinda hard...i can only say..maybe cropp a little off the left where that green is? or, maybe there should have been more boxcar or no boxcar? Good photo by the way especially since the trains were going 60.

I think the oncoming train being that far away is killing the shot. I think if the trains were closer to each other, it might work. Good luck

Yeah... I know... I didn't wanna jam them too close together. Didn't have a motor drive at the time. That was some afternoon though-non-stop.

That shot might have work if you were zoomed further down the tracks more and had the approaching train in focus. Nice attempt though.

It's a great shot. It has a good action feel to it and is fine the way it is.
BTW, love that still black SD-40 along for the ride.
The screeners missed a "keeper" and I wouldn't take any suggestions from the masses.

Ugh, bad angle, I HATE that rejection.

Try an appeal, that one may have a chance, though I agree the train on the left should have been a little closer.

Gotta agree here. That is a fine photo. The light is a little rugged, but it provides a feeling to the photo. You can tell it was a hot summer day, with the heat haze on the horizon and the high sun. I wouldn't do a thing except maybe give it a little tilt to level it out. A touch grainy, but perhaps that was the scan?

It's shots like this that make railfanning the joy that it is. This one is a keeper, more so than the scenic and artsey shots. Sure am getting tired of those.

How can you possibly get tired of all those digital night shots of lowered crossing gates with red streaks flowing by. I can't get enough of them.

That's why they say photography is a very subjective art. Not all people agree with ways of shooting trains. I try to accept all forms and give them a chance. Thats fine if you don't like them but don't boldy state that on the forums. Also, this topic is about a photograph, not your personal belief on certain forums of photography, please keep that to yourself. I personally like creative shots. They give this database of photographs a good change from the standard shot.

This should not have been rejected!!! The screeners definitely missed a keeper in this one. It would have been better if the trains were closer to each other but no 1 shot is absolutely perfect. Two trains at speed passing each other is not too common (it could be if you find sidings) but getting a meet like this is nota 2 to 1 chance. And now that Conrail is gone this is a shot that cannot be taken now therefore should be in this collection. Great shot, Richard. I really wanna see this one make it on. Very nice work.

I like the shot, Rich. I wish I would have taken up the hobby when Conrail was still running and got shots like that...

I agree that the shot is a little tilted to the left, but other than that, shots like that are becoming vintage and they should be accepted.

Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, but it's difficult to find shots of ex-PC units with CR stenciling on them. This shot gives you a good sense of a time/era that's long gone.

I will say that I feel Rich's shots really give you a great feeling of actually "being there." I can feel how hot and humid it was that day.

Maybe I'm just partial- this kind of action takes me back to when I was a little kid. Brings back good memories of what my first train sightings were like.

It's a bit more common than you believe, you've just got to know where to be.

These aren't RP.net quality, but my effort was to suggest that trains passing at high speed isn't all that rare.

go figure. I only appeal once and that's it. Their loss.

As for graininess, well, I wish I had the $$$ for a dedicated slide scanner but no dice. I use an Epson Perfection 1650 and do the fixing in Photoshop CS with a Neat Image plugin.

Yep-it was hot! And my intent was to keep the other train distanced-the 'bearing down on you at speed' thing, etc.

It was shot handheld on K-64 with a maxed out 200mm zoom lens. Think I used the AE-1 at the time. We were standing on a highway overpass abutment to gain height. I was younger then-I shake too damn much to handhold now!

Gad, I'm getting old... to me Conrail was "the end," having grown up on the EL...

Conrail was "the start" for me...NS/CSX were the evil twins. Not anymore though; I'm just grateful to be trackside and catch something (except UP, naturally)...
