Thumbs up Get a load of these babies!

Most of you already are aware of Union Pacifics Heritage series going on, i just wanted to start this thread to hear some opinions about this. I seriously doubt anybody will have any negitive feelings on these units, in my opinion Union Pacific is doing a good thing by releasing these units, meaning they are releasing these units for railfans, at least it seems. I love the paint, it looks a little funky on the ACE unit but it is no doubt cool. You got to hand it to Union Pacific, they may not know much about keeping trains running but they havent messed up a paint scheme yet, every paint scheme UP comes up with has been well thought out, unlike some other railroad i know!. Now if they could just keep there units clean!

I also heard that there are more units in the heritage series, C&NW and Southern Pacific are on the way and i belive the 5th unit is still in question, mabey Cotton Belt. Any one have any info on this?

I applaud UP's motive of the new heritage schemes. I like them. A lot.

Pat, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume you were joking when you wrote this. Haven't messed up a paint scheme yet?!?!? I can think of SP, C&NW, and D&RGW paint all being messed up recently with cancerous UP patches slapped on them. As a point, how many ex-Conrail units have you seen with a Thoroughbred or a CSX patch slapped across the nose? Or a SOO unit with a CP stenciled across the snoot?

I'm all for remembering heritage, but how many hundreds of units did UP 'destroy' by patching them instead of keeping them in their pre-merger paint? Just a thought...

Well technically (in my perspective) a Union Pacific patch job isnt a UP paint scheme. I couldnt agree with you more that UP trashed all of those patched locomotives and they look very bad (which is a understatement) but the UP flag scheme, lightning bolt, operation lifesaver and UP Wings scheme are all the most well known and the most sucessful paint schemes ever in the railroad industry. A Union Pacific patch job wouldnt be considered a UP paint scheme baecause the locomotive wouldnt be in the Armour Yellow colors, it would still be painted in the C&NW, SP, Rio Grande and so on colors. Sure, it has UP numbers and when it is identified via radio it is called in as a UP unit but when it is seen in person, one wouldnt call it in UP paint. I guess i should have made myself more clear.

I contacted a colleague to ask whether the forthcoming SP colors would be red/grey, Daylight or Black/Silver. His response was a Sargent Schultz WAV file: "I know nothing. I see nothing and I say nothing."

That being said, how about an opinion poll?

I would think the Black Widow colors. SP was covering ground in those colors, and losing ground in gray/red. Besides, the Daylight colors look better on steam engines!

The Black Widow is sharp but I predict a variation of the Daylight scheme in order to include the Sunset logo.
