Default Gallery: Only because it was late...

i.e., the shot was made possible because of a late-running train. Here are mine:
For the first one, it was supposed to come before dawn, and I wouldn't have even known, but it was about 5:00 when it actually came through. Second, Amtrak was 3'41" off the advertised.

Only got this one in such good light because of a brake problem on the loco. Had it been on time I would have been at ISO 800+

I would venture to say that at least 60% of the Amtrak shots would fit in this category.

But then the only way I get Amtrak in Toledo in daylight is when they're running REALLY late!

Only because this was LATE did I miss out on this INCREDIBLE opportunity:
*Wish I had my 7D then... or at least a roll of ASA 800.

What opportunity did you miss? If that's yours, please scan it and submit it, Mitch!!!

While nowhere near as late as some of these Amtrak shots, one of my favorite shots I've taken was of a (relatively) late train. I saw the ferris wheel set up near the bridge for the weekend earlier in the day, and decided to try and catch the evening passenger train passing by it. At the time the train was scheduled to arrive, the sun was shining straight down the tracks. An hour later when the train finally showed up, the sun had shifted to a much nicer angle and I got a superior shot to what would have been possible if the train was on time.

Today, there was an issue with the mainline switch at Big Bend, and the train was delayed about an hour and a half, so the Southbound is seen crossing the river in good light, rather than the usual darkness.

You have a 7D as well? It's becoming quite the popular SLR in the railfan community!

This guy would have come through several hours earlier so the sun would not have been as sweet, not that it would have mattered since it was cloudy. Real treat to catch a foreign leader on CN.
