Default July 9-12 steam excursion cancelled

The Board of Directors of the Mountain State Railroad & Logging Historical Association regrets to announce that the Steam Train to Elkins and Beverly, scheduled for July 9-12, has been cancelled.

With the current uncertain economic situation, our ticket sales were insufficient to the point where it was likely that we and our partnering sponsors would lose a significant amount of money if we ran the trips at this time.

Full refunds will be given to tickets already purchased. To those of you who bought tickets, we thank you for your support.

We hope we will be able to run these trips in the future, perhaps in 2010. If you would like to be placed on our mailing list for future railfan events please send your mailing address to rf@msrlha.org.

Not just money . . . vacation time too! I'd have loved to get to WV for that trip (especially after I heard the Heisler was taking the place of the Big 6), but I'd already made plans to go ride behind the 4449 and all.

I am wicked bummed! I attended the Elkins event last summer and got lots of nice shots of Big 6. It's one of the few events during the high-sun season where one can shoot steam train ops before 10 AM and after 4 PM. I was really looking forward to seeing the Heisler, because all of the evening shots at Elkins are left side shots....and she looks the same from either side!

Thanks so much for the heads-up Walter! I was on the verge of booking an airline ticket to attend.
